  1. Debbiecakes.com
  2. go to theknot.com (you'll need to set a free account) and they have lots of pics and contact info for pastry chefs all over the country...other stuff you may find helpful too. I love this cake myself and am planning something similar for my wedding. http://confetticakes.com/images/wd35a.jpg
  3. for the grroms cake, it is traditionaly chocolate, but it could also be cheesecake or anything else he really likes. if you don't want it to be a shef's hat, why not make it look like a utensil he uses a lot? or, don't make it a shape at all, but give it a really cool icing job.

for the wedding cake, go with white, yellow, or chocolate cake. if you want layers, you can even get a layer of each! look around online and talk to your local bakeries for ideas. figure out how traditional you want to be, if you want a stacked cake or columns, etc.

if you want to svae money, you can even rent a FAKE cake, which looks gorgerous and has one slice you cut out, but it is taken down afterwards and the guests are served from a sheet cake - they'll never know the difference.
  4. sponge cake works best, more people will eat it ,less waste
the thing is to think different to all the others cakes you have seen ...... it your wedding after all. so make it just for you
two. pick a cake that reflects both your taste, and looks
  5. You have to check out theknot.com. They have a huge cake gallery that you can look at. As for the grooms cake. What about a fridge out of cake and kitchen utensils around it. And a little figure of him sitting on top of the fridge or beside the fridge or something with a chefs hat and apron?
  6. Groom's cake - I have seen recently:

a plain chocolate sheet cake decorated with the groom's favorite football team

cheesecakes (arranged in one of those multi-tower style things) with do it yourself cherry topping

a very large chocolate sheet cake decorated with a huge 3-D ship (the one the groom was stationed on the in the navy)

a huge chocolate sheet cake decorated with chess squares with chess pieces - there was a separate time clock made of cake with the score - the bride was winning

Maybe some of these will give you some ideas. Not really for chefs, but you might want to go in another direction.

For the bride's cake, I would also suggest The Knot as others have. Also, Martha Stewart Weddings has a good on-line gallery. And don't discount your local super market. Some of them do some nice work and have books you can look through as well.
