A Cupcake wedding cake?

Okay, my fiance and I LOVE the cupcake wedding cake idea. Then we could have the chocolate (which I like) and the white (which he likes) and wouldn't have the hassel of having to transport a huge cake, plus the price is more reasonable. However both sets of parents plus a woman who refers to herself as my half mom say it's a silly idea, so what is everyone elses opinion? BTW we are getting married around Halloween.

  1. Basically? Screw everyone else's opinion on this. It's your wedding!

When they give you their opinion on it, just smile, thank them for their input, and go on.

I, for one, think cupcake cakes are adorable. :)
  2. I absolutely love that idea. Do what you want. It won't matter to anyone else in the long run.
  3. The only opinion that should matter is you and your groom's opinion.

I like the idea, though I'm having a cake, cupcakes are a decent idea too.
  4. I think that it is a cute idea. Remember that it is you and your fiances wedding, no one elses, do what makes you happy. It is your BIG day!
  5. The cupcake idea is the best way to have what both of you like. So if you like chocolate have chocolate cupcake and if he like white then get white cupcakes. I LOVE THE IDEA!!!!!!!!!! Plus it is your wedding. So if I were you I would go with the cupcakes.
  6. I'm having a cupcake wedding cake with mini cupcakes at my wedding, so I would have to say that I love the idea ;-)

They are small enough to pop in your mouth, that way we don't have to worry about the heavy cake being transported and possibly dropped, and the time consumption and mess of cutting each piece.

Our guests will be able to grab one or two at a time and enjoy themselves without the hassle of forks and plates.

    Congratulations!!
  7. My cousin did a cupcake wedding cake. It was sweet and charming! It is also very stylish now. If the parents say it is silly, so what? Styles frequently change, even for wedding cakes. Do what will please you most.
  8. I think it a great idea that's my fiance` and I are doing. we are going to have a small round cake to cut.

think about it how many people do you know actually eat the cake. Why spend so much money on something that is going to go to waste?
Besides its you and your fiance`s day , make it what you and he want
  9. who is getting married, YOU or your parents?

It's your day, do what you want. Besides, i think the other guest would like to see something new at the reception.
  10. it doesnt matter what everyone else wants its your wedding you only get married for the first time once so do what u want i think its a cute idea
  11. I have seen a cupcake wedding cake and I think it's a wonderful idea. Just the right size servings, easy to serve and so adorable. I think it will be a hit at your wedding.
  12. While your relatives are allowed their opinions, whose wedding is it? Marriage is all about compromise and the two of you have managed to begin yours with a compromise that will delight the both of you! I think that is a good sign. Go for the cupcakes!!
  13. The cupcake wedding cake is adorable! Have you shown them pictures? They may like it once they see it.

If you want to make them feel better...get a regular groom's cake (a regular flat cake shouldn't be expensive).
  14. I've considered this option as well...so long as you find a baker that can make really beautiful-looking cupcakes, then it can be just as lovely as a cake, and would definitely be personalized!
I agree with the above. Unless they are the ones footing the entire bill, the choice is entirely yours and your fiance's. :)
    Best wishes!!
  15. Honey, those old timers just don't know what's HOT in the world of baking...and cupcakes (and cupcake wedding cakes) are all the rage! Forget what the "moms" say and do it the young way! Your guests might be a bit surprised...but what's wrong with that? They'll eat it, enjoy it and remember it alot longer than an old traditional cake, won't they? And it will be FUN!

    Have a Happy Wedding!

(P.S. I'm probably older than they are, or close to it, at 51...but I think young!)
  16. It's your day...do what you want! They don't have to eat your cupcakes if they don't want to. If they make any remarks about how "silly" your idea is, just say politely that it is what you and your fiance really want and leave it at that.
  17. If the cake flavor is the problem, you know you can get a 2-3 tier wedding cake with different flavors and fillings, right? Mine had 3 tiers: chocolate with fudge filling, chiffon with a layer of lemon and raspberry mousse, and a 3rd tier with vanilla cake and a cherry filling. Usually the bakery does the delivery and set-up as part of the service.

Brides are doing all kinds of things in place of a traditional wedding cake, (cupcakes, donuts, pie) but for me, there was something wonderful about cutting into our wedding cake that a cupcake just wouldn't do.
  18. my husband nor i really like cake so that is what we had. tell all the people that think it is silly, it is your day
  19. I kinda like the idea myself! And heck...you could probably have even more flavors than just I would imagine. It's your wedding, you should be able to pick what you want to do.

On a side note, when my aunt got married, she had a cake made...well, the day of the wedding, we were at the hall setting up (my family made all the food besides the cake) and when the cake was brought and being assembled, it was discovered that it was moldy on the bottom.
  20. I've been to many weddings and have seen this once and I tell you it was beautiful and I will always remember those cupcakes. They married in the Fall and the cupcakes had either brown or orange icing and each had a fall type flower on top of them. It was lovely. You should definitely do it. People will remember and I'm sure will like the idea too. (sometimes the older generation see things different and think you should have the traditional "cake," but they'll get over it when everyone comments at your wedding, "oh, what a cute idea!" Congratulations!
  21. i love cupcake towers! i like the variety they offer, plus they are cute. u dont hav eto pay a cake cutting fee either. and they can look really elegant with the right decoration. u can also get filllings liek a regular cake. i dont see what the issue is as long as they taste good. i want cupcakes at my grad party.
  22. It's a way cute concept. But a lot of people don't get it. How do you cut the cupcake like tradition says you have to do with a cake!? I think it's cool and unique but if you are having a traditional wedding you should have a traditional cake. Plus the cupcakes don't seem to flow well with a night or elegant wedding theme. But it's your wedding so do what you want to do!
  23. One great thing is that this gets you out of the cutting fee that the hall might charge you! sometimes that gets so out of hand that the cutting fee costs more than the cake did!

I say you go for it! Its a great compromise and can be arranged very attractively!

If your parents REALLY want you to have a traditional cake, go ahead and give it to them (of course they'll have to foot the bill) and you can always have cupcakes for the GROOM'S cake! This is a great new little tradition that my fiance and I are taking advantage of!!
  24. your wedding do it yr way i would prefer to also have a very small traditional wedding cake just for the wedding party
  25. Sure, put it between the helium balloons, the clown and the pony ride. It will fit right in.
  26. I agree with you--add another point in your favor! =)

I see it on TV a lot (I love watching wedding shows) and I absolutely love the idea! For anyone to say it is silly nowadays isn't up to date on the trends =P
  27. While i agree that you should do what YOU want, and not worry about other peoples opinion, I personally think a cupcake wedding cake is cheesy and a bit white trashy (even worse, i've seen a twinky wedding cake) If you want to get different types of cake you can easily make different tiers different types. if cost is an issue check out costco (if there is one near you) they have got cheap, but nice looking cakes.
  28. I think its a great idea....ITS YOUR WEDDING....do whatever you want and make sure it screams out YOU and your Hubby!....your parents are just not sure of it b/c its not traditional.
and go crazy with the fact its near Halloween , best weddings have wicked themes.
  29. OMG - I think it's adorable! :) You could even do orange icing for the white cake and black for the chocolate cake. Just tell everyone that you wanted to have some fun with the cake. It's YOUR day - do what makes you happy!!! :) (My grandparents' anniversary was Oct. 29 and they were married for 56 years!)

    Good luck and congratulations! :)
  30. I think its a really cute idea! You can only have the perfect wedding, where You marry The LOVE of Your Life Once, Do What You want to!! Thats What I say anyways....
  31. I think its a great idea. My fiance and I are considering the same thing. We also figured this way everyone can have what they like (chocolate or white cake).
  32. If you are in the mood to compromise you could do the cupcakes and a small elegant wedding cake for the look and memory. If not go with the cupcakes it is the new thing that alot of people seem to be doing. Another idea is I am doing different falvored cheesecakes for my SIL bday based on a wedding cake design we saw at:

  33. It's your wedding, do what you want.

You don't want to look back and wish you had done it your way.

Tell them you appreciate their advice but you want this day to be everything you and your fiance dreamed of.

    Do what you want.
  34. Its kind of a quirky thing that some couples are doing now. I will say, I love me a cupcake! I'd love that!!!!
  35. Very cute idea!

    See this website for examples:

    http://www.ledasbakeshop.com

Click on Weddings, then on the picture of the cupcake tower
  36. I think it is a really cute idea! Right now cupcakes are all the rage - they have cupcake bakeries now just in case people weren't sure.

I also think it's great because like you said you both like different types of cake - plus your guests will probably feel the same. Chocolate or vanilla ... if you don't like it then you have to skip it. And let's face it - the cake is the best part! haha

Do what you and your groom feel is good for you.
  37. I love it too!!! I think the cupcake wedding tower idea is sooo cute!! It's a great way to get everything you want into your wedding cake... like having two flavors!!! Alot of people who believe in old fashion traditions think you need a "Regular" cake, but I say go for it!! If you and your fiancee like the idea and that's what you want do it!!! It is amazing how gorgeous they can make the cupcakes.... also.. if you're worried about what you can cut into.. many bakeries will make a small round layer that's kinda hidden into the cupcake tower so you can cut it.. and smash it =) into each other!!! I love the idea!!! Do what you want!!!!
  38. Cupcakes is a great idea!!! If you are the on epaying for it then you should be able to do what you like in every aspect of your wedding day. If your parents or his parents are paying for the wedding or for the cake then they should have a say in it. If they don't like your idea and they are paying then they can fork over the extra cash but if you and your future hubby are paying and this is what you want... Stand up for yourselfs and go for it!

    Congrats and Good Luck!
  39. WE ARE DOING A CUPCAKE WEDDING CAKE, TOO!!
Can you tell I'm excited? I have 2 weeks to go, and I've been dying to see this creation!!

The reason that I love doing cupcakes so much is that we can have so many different flavors! In fact, we're doing 6!

    1. Vanilla cupcakes, vanilla buttercream, red roses
    2. French vanilla, vanilla buttercream, red roses & mini white flowers.
    3. Red velvet, chocolate buttercream, red roses
    4. Mint chocolate chip, chocolate buttercream, crushed red andes mints on top
    5. Banana nut cupcakes, vanilla frosting, sprinkled nuts
    6. Mocha, mocha buttercream, coffee beans on top

It was so much cheaper to go with cupcakes.
It's only $8 per dozen which equals out to about 66 cents per cupcake compared to $1.75 a slice for cake, and the serving sizes are bigger with the cupcakes!

Our baker even threw in a free anniversary layer for us!

    I absolutely can not wait!
  40. I'm getting married on October 12 in Las Vegas, and we're having a Halloween themed reception on October 27 at home. I want to do cupcakes...I think it's a great idea. We're gonna put little spiders and ghosts on them. Do what you like; it's your wedding!
  41. I think its a great idea and is a neat one at that. Its your day and it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks, including your family. and since its around halloween-- you could have black and orange frosting on them!
  42. I think they're cute, they're hip and they are currently IN.
  43. I think it's cute. It's your wedding. If they don't like it they don't have to eat a cupcake. A solution to the "cutting into the cake" dilema that's been mentioned is having a small cake that's fancier that you and your fiancee would cut into. That cake could have two layers to it- one in your flavor and one in his so after you cut the cake he feeds you your flavor and you feed him his.
