Picnic recipes for wedding reception????

I am having a small and informal outdoor wedding at a plantation bed and breakfast next May. I want to do the cooking myself, and I am planning on making individual picnic baskets for each guest. I want the food to be a little more special than just lunchmeat or whatever, kinda old-fashioned, southern.... Preliminary menu-- Shaved prime rib w/horseradish mayo on mini yeast rolls. Southern fried chicken Garden Pasta Salad Sliced Cucumbers and Onions Kettle Style Chips Chocolate Sandies Cookies Cupcake Wedding Cake Any comments or alternate ideas would be appreciated. Keep in mind that they must be able to be individually wrapped and packed in boxes. Must not need to be cold, and must be easy to eat outside.

  1. are you including drinks as well, you could do individual bottles of champagne
  2. honey, i don't think you need any help. it sounds delicious as is. good luck.
  3. This sounds really good. Don't think I would change a thing.
  4. Sounds great! We had a bbq at our cottage for our wedding and it turned out great. I love your idea.

You may want to consider a horseradish mustard and leave out the mayo if it is going to sit for any amount of time. OR hit a store that carries the condiments in little packets and have bins of the on ice for them to pick up and toss in at the last minute.same goes with butter. you can have salt and pepper too.

I would also put a little bag in for garbage so they can toss it in as they eat and thing don't get all over.

Sounds terrific..i wish i could go!

  5. It sounds fabulous.

My only concern is how much time this will take you, when you probably need to be focused on getting married.

Your guests are very lucky people - my guess is your husband is a lucky man, as well!
  6. my first impression is that it doesn't sound like enough food for someone to get full.

also --this creates people throwing out what they don't eat and wanting more of other stuff. . .

    just my thoughts
but please know that it is an awesome, cute idea. I'm not putting it down at ALL. Just something that came to mind imagining being a guest.
  7. Your idea is great i really don't think you need to change anything. Maybe add something cute as far as drinks and you will have it made. Good luck and congrats!!!
  8. Sounds wonderful, but I bet you won't have the time to do it all yourself. With the amount of work they take, you'd have to start days in advance and things would be stale by the wedding day.

It was all I could do to run the errands that needed to be done, pack for the honeymoon, get my hair done, get dressed and check out the venue without making the reception dinner as well. If you can do it, more power to you.

You might want to consider a caterer to do up the baskets for you or go for a Pig Roast and all the trimmings.
