What should I do?? help?
My two dogs just found chocolate. I was out of the room to come back to find them licking the bowl, I don't know how much they consumed since I was only out of the room for about a minute. I think about 3-5 ounces. Both are boxers, one is 4 years old around 90 - 100 pounds and has gotten into a whole pale of brownies and nothing happaned but I am mostly worried about the younger one, he just turned 1, has a heart murmer and weights about 60 pounds, we just got him and I have no idea if he has ever consumed chocolate before. It was Betty Crocker Chocolate Cake Mix. Super Moist. It says that the frosting is dark chocolate but I don't believe that I used any of the frosting...Unles when you mix the eggs, and so on that it already has the dark chocolate in it.

- Phone your vet, explain the situation, and you'll probably have to take your dogs in. The vet will check them out. Really, you should rely on the vet for this one to answer your questions. Your dogs have poison in their system right now, so don't delay.
- The good news is that most commercial chocolate and chocolate cake mix does not contain enough cocoa to hurt or kill most dogs. Actual baking chocolate is considered the most dangerous form a dog can consume. However, it's a good idea to take them both to the Vet for an evaluation. Better safe than sorry!
- I'm not sure cake mix will hurt them. My dog ate one of the big chocolate kisses. (like 3 inches wide on the base) and he was fine. The bet had told me to give him drops of hydrogen peroxide (i think) to make him vomit. But he refused to vomit. So I gave up and he was fine. Ask or google the peroxide thing cause that is my memory but I'm not positive about that. I really do think they will be fine. Expecially because they are so big!!
- Most likely they will be fine. It doesnt' sound like they ate too much. When my sisters too dogs ate a whole german chocolate cake the vet told her to give the dogs something which will make them throw up. I think it was 1/4 of a cup of hydrogen peroxide. I would confirm this with your vet first. And if you do it. DO IT OUTSIDE! Cause they throw up immediatly.
- Call the vet office right away just to be on the safe side. It could be a dangerous situation.
Good luck
- Get your dogs to a Vet.asap as chocolate can and will kill a dog.
- I would call the vet give him the run down and see what he suggest. I DEFFINATELY wouldnt leave them unattended so that if the vet doesn't think you should rush them in you're there incase something does happen.

- Just keep a eye on them,Should trow up whats left. They are going to be ok.But keep an eye on them.I've had dogs forever an they get into chocolate sometimes but was always ok.P.S.let me know how thay are .
- They will be fine. They may get loose stools or vomit a couple of times but not likely. That really isn't a lot of chocolate and cake mix isn't too awful bad. To really make a dog sick, it would have to consume alot. Here's a chart to help:
The good news is that it takes, on average, a fairly large amount of theobromine 100-150 mg/kg to cause a toxic reaction. Although there are variables to consider like the individual sensitivity, animal size and chocolate concentration.
On average,
Milk chocolate contains 44 mg of theobromine per oz.
Semisweet chocolate contains 150mg/oz.
Baker's chocolate 390mg/oz.
Using a dose of 100 mg/kg as the toxic dose it comes out roughly as:
1 ounce per 1 pound of body weight for Milk chocolate
1 ounce per 3 pounds of body weight for Semisweet chocolate
1 ounce per 9 pounds of body weight for Baker's chocolate.
So, for example, 2 oz. of Baker's chocolate can cause great risk to an 15 lb. dog. Yet, 2 oz. of Milk chocolate usually will only cause digestive problems.
