What kind of frosting do you put on German chocolate cake?

  3. frosting thats made for German chocolate cake... it says so on the tub in grocery stores (the one with coconut in it)

  5. It's supposed to be a coconut/pecan topping, rather than a frosting. (It's something you *pile* on top of the cake, rather than spread thinly.)

    German Chocolate Cake Topping

    1 c. evaporated milk
    2/3 c. brown sugar
    2/3 c. butter
    1 3/4 c. coconut
    1 1/3 c. chopped pecans

    Mix milk, sugar, and butter in a pot. Bring to a boil. Add coconut and pecans. This makes enough for a 9x13" cake.
